History
The Department of Special Education (Pendidikan Luar Biasa/PLB) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) was established in 1968, initially under the auspices of Surakarta State Teachers College (IKIP) and utilizing a non-semester credit system curriculum. In 1976, the Special Education (PLB) study program/department merged as part of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Universitas Sebelas Maret and continued to use the non-credit semester/packet curriculum. In 1979, the PLB program at UNS started to implement the semester credit system (SKS) for its curriculum. In 1994, the curriculum of the PLB UNS was based on the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 056/U/1994 which implemented the Content-Based Curriculum (KBI) that stipulated 100-110 mandatory courses out of 160 SKS for the undergraduate level. In 2000, the curriculum of PLB UNS was based on the Minister of National Education Decree No. 232/U/2000, which implemented the Core and Institutional Curriculum. In 2002, based on the Minister of National Education Regulation No. 045/U/2002, PLB UNS implemented a competency-based curriculum (KBK). In 2012, based on the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Regulation No. 44 of 2015 on the National Standards for Higher Education, the Special Education UNS implemented a Higher Education Curriculum based on the Indonesian National Qualification Framework and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Standards. From 2012 to 2018, the curriculum of Special Education UNS underwent two revisions, one in 2016 and another in 2018. In 2020, the curriculum of PLB UNS was developed based on the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 3 of 2020 concerning the National Standards for Higher Education, which adopts the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MB-KM) curriculum.
