PHILOSOFI
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) is a public (state) university, established in 1976. It is located in Surakarta city, Central Java, Indonesia which is the center of Javanese culture.UNS is also well-known as a green campus. UNS has 11 faculties, a graduate school and a vocational school with more than 36,000 students. Currently, there are 65 undergraduate programs, 42 master programs, 16 doctoral programs, 26 associate degree (diploma), 14 medical specialist programs and 4 professional programs. UNS has excellent reputation at national level and continuously pursues to be internationally recognized university. The National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) has granted UNS grade A (excellent) for institutional accreditation. As for international recognition, UNS currently occupies 5th for top Indonesian universities (ranked by the 4 International Colleges and Universities/4ICU). The university was rated 3 stars by QS World Ranking in 2018.
According to the Decree of Ministry of Finance No 52/KMK.05/2009, UNS is a university with general services agency (BLU) status. This status will change to autonomous public university (PTN-BH) very soon. UNS has an organization culture which is “ACTIVE”, abbreviation of achievement orientation, customer satisfaction, teamwork, integrity, visionary and entrepreneurship. Mangesthi Luhur Ambangun Nagara is the educational philosophy of UNS which means that education delivered by UNS is dedicated to contribute to the development of the country based on the nation’s noble values. UNS has also established its vision to become the excellent center for science, knowledge, and art in the international level which is based on the noble values of the national culture

Being a center for the development of science, technology and art in the teacher training and special education aspect internationally reputed with the noble values of national culture.
SPECIAL EDUCATION MISSION PROGRAM
- Organizing education, learning and guidance effectively to produce superior, highly competitive, independent and personable educators in the aspect of special education
- Carry out research and development that supports the implementation of education and learning and is able to produce various innovations in special education
- Organizing community development and service activities in the aspect of special education.
- Developing science, technology, and art that supports development in the aspect of special education.
THE AIM OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM
- Obtaining graduates who belive and devote themselves to the most powerful God, honorable personality, intelligent and ingenious who is ready to educate or professional education personnel with the global insight.
- Producing new inovation in teacher training and education especially as a basis for solving problems in society and to raise a better life.
- Bringing out devotion works to the community which is able to solve the practical problem in the field of teacher training and special education.
Referring to the objective, mission, and vision of the program, as well as considering the expected learning outcomes, SE UNS develop the career paths for the graduates including special education teacher, administrator/manager of special education program, instructor for special education program, research assistant in special education, social worker, and entrepreneurs in special education.
BACHELOR PROGRAM IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
The undergraduate program in special education of Sebelas Maret University (SE UNS) has been rated A (excellent) for three times assesment by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) since 2004. The latest re-assesment was in 2015 and the program successfully maintained the A grade according to the Decree of BAN-PT No. 1155/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XI/2015. In the line with the vision of UNS and FKIP UNS, this program’s vision is also become the excellent center for science, knowledge, and art in the field of special education in the international level which is based on the noble values of the national culture.
The program has adopted the outcome based education. Program expected learning outcomes are established to meet the requirement of the stakeholders, including external stakeholders (government, alumni, and employers) and internal stakeholders (students and academic staff). Curriculum is updated every two years in some systematic syages involving internal and external stakeholders.
This program is supported by 16 active academic staff which most of them are professionally certified to teach in higher eduction. 3 staff are full professor, 3 associate professors, 5 are senior lecturer, 1 is assistant professor and 3 junior lecturer.
Some faculty members are pratically qualified in the field as consultant for education development in both private and public institution. Students of SE UNS have a substantial number of opportunities to develop their hard and soft skills through extra-curricular activities, student organization at the university and faculty level and participating in national and international events. Participation in national and international competitions, both for academic for non-academic, is encouraged and facilitated.
THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The expected learning outcomes of the SE UNS consist of five generic and six subject specific learning outcomes. The generic ELOs are social sensitivity and concern, independence and entrepreneurship, pedagogy concept, communication and lifelong learning. On the other B hand, the subject-specific ELOs are special education concept, curriculum and learning process for special education, subject-specific special education pedagogy, compensatory service requirement, supporting knowledge for special education and research in special education.
